Artist's Statement
Karin Foulds looks to her love of form, fabric, and story to inform her representational work, most often expressed using oil on canvas or pencil, and ink on paper. Her garment portraits illustrate the story of the wearer (past or present) and reflect a memory held dear to the client. The client’s participation in the process of set up as well as the ritual of completion is encouraged.

In her abstract work, Karin explores the shifting forms of nature through a meditative and expressive-arts based approach. Often using acrylics on paper or canvas, bending, folding, rubbing, scratching, and scrubbing to reveal what lies beneath. She embraces the imperfections that arise as necessary vulnerabilities in the emerged entity. Further, Karin considers how the entity now born may engage others in relationship through exhibition and community response.

Karin is a professional member in good standing of the Ontario Expressive Arts Therapy Association (OEATA).
